Recipes - Green Is Gorgeous Smoothie

Green smoothies feature big time in mine and my family's diet. We start the day off with a green smoothie and I will often end the day with one too. It's surprising really that I haven't turned green with the amount I drink! I put my glowing skin and clear head down to the greens I drink! Try this for a meal in a glass:)

Juice the following:

• 4 big leaves of chard
• 2 sticks of celery
• 2 inches of cucumber
• 2 big apples (or four small ones - the sweeter the better!)
• half a lemon
• chunk of ginger

Pour the juice into your blender. I have a high-speed one, which I use several times a day and three years on, it's still brilliant and works like a charm. But any powerful-ish blender should do!

Add the following:

• the flesh of one avocado

• half a big sharon fruit (persimmon) or any soft fruit of your choosing

• a spoonful (or two) of baobab powder (2 x more calcium than milk, 6 x more potassium than bananas, 6 x more vitamin c than oranges, 2 x more antioxidants than goji berries, 6 x more antioxidants than blueberries!!!) I get mine from Holland and Barrett (Minvita is the brand) but you can also get it online

• one teaspoon of wheatgrass powder (also from Holland and Barrat, or Daily Bread, online etc)

• 2 teaspoons of shelled hemp seeds

Add a handful of ice and blend up to a creamy delicious smoothie!

You can adapt this in any way - see which ingredients you have in your cupboard. Try juicing other greens too -  don't be scared! It tastes AMAZING!!!

And to top it all off, I drink mine these days with a really beautiful glass straw! If you want one of these, chat to Dawn Houghton from Raw Alchemy as she will get one to you asap for your highly nutritious, incredible tasting Green is Gorgeous smoothie!
